Hayden was elected to the California state assembly in 1982, and the state senate ten years later, serving eighteen years in all. He ran as a protest candidate several other times, resulting in a won-loss record of 7-4. He also served twice on the Democratic Party's national platform committee. Altogether he has attended ten Democratic national conventions, six times as a delegate. In 1996 and 2000, he was elected as a delegate by the largest caucus vote in California. Despite serving under Republican governors for sixteen of eighteen years, and twice subjected to Republican-led expulsion hearings, Hayden managed to pass over one hundred measures.
ALSO....something very special: At this meeting, we will begin a silent auction for a one week stay in a house in Brittany France. The week in question is July 1st thru the 8th. There is a little leeway on the dates, but not a whole lot. The house is located in a small pleasure port of 500 people in Brittany between Quimper and Brest . The house holds 4 people max, and has two bedrooms with double beds, and one bedroom with a single bed. It's an old 19th century stone house, and is situated besides a river. It's 20 minutes from the beach. The house is not child proof, and is on two levels. No pets or smoking is allowed. The lucky winner will be able to talk with the owner who lives in the East Bay about more details. The opening low bid is $500 for the week. with all proceeds going to the Wellstone Club. We’re sure that many people will want to take advantage of this wonderful opportunity, so bring you bids to Julianne, right away. Julianne Morris for the Fundraising Committee
Congresswoman Barbara Lee Congressman Jerry McNerney On November 7th Jerry McNerney was elected to represent California's 11th Congressional district. Jerry McNerney is a nationally recognized expert in wind engineering and renewable energy, with a PhD in mathematics. During his career in wind energy, McNerney's work contributed to saving the equivalent of approximately 30 million barrels of oil, or 8.3 million tons of carbon dioxide, the main greenhouse gas, as well as other harmful pollutants. The Wellstone Democratic Renewal Club worked hard to help get Jerry elected and now that he is in Congress, we get a chance to see him speak with Congresswoman Lee. Friday, January 26th 7:30 to 9:00am So far, we have 2 full tables reserved. At this late date, if you still want to go, you might not get a WDRC
table unless there are 10 people that sign up right away, so if you’re
interested, let me know and I’ll work on it. Vicki To R.S.V.P., or with questions, please call Andrea Cousins at 510-663-1207, or email andrea@leeforcongress.org and please let Vicki know as well. vlcandy@comcast.net
Protest! Almost 3,000 dead American soldiers, at least 650,000 dead Iraqis. It's time to put a stop to the war machine. Millions of people voted to get the Republicans out and end the war, now it’s up to the Democrats and ALL OF US to do the only reasonable thing: BRING ALL THE TROOPS HOME NOW FROM IRAQ! The Iraq Study Group offers more of the same, or even an escalation of troops in Iraq. President Bush is vowing to continue the war and the danger grows every day that the US or Israel will attack Lebanon again or launch another "pre-emptive strike" against Syria or Iran. It's time to get the anti-war movement back in the streets! On January 27, hundreds of thousands of people will march in Washington, DC to demand an end to the war. We're bringing the same message to the streets of San Francisco. Make your own signs and banners and march with your friends, family, co-workers, class-mates, church, union or organization. Join us to show Bush and the new Democratic Congress that the anti-war movement is back. Let’s try to meet up with our friends at East Bay for Democracy at the head of the march at around 11:45 and have a HUGE East Bay Delegation.
